The Art of Love
Difficult to define, yet impossible to resist, love is complex and wears many disguises. Whether divine, marital, parental or romantic, it has always been a favourite subject for artists, and some of the ways in which they have striven to portray the different aspects of this emotion form the subject of this exhibition. Selected from the Barber’s print collection, it features works by Robetta, Castiglione and Kolbe, and complements the theme of this year’s Family Open Day: Art, Music and Love.

Carl Wilhelm Kolbe (1759-1835), A Youth playing the lyre to a maiden at a fountain in luxuriant vegetation [Etching, 1802/3]
