Beat Stories · Saturday 24 January 2009 · 10.30am - 4.30pm “The only people that interest me are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to live, mad to talk, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones that never yawn or say a commonplace thing ... but burn, burn, burn like roman candles across the night.” Jack Kerouac, On the Road Join storyteller Maria Whatton in a day-long, On the Road writing trip. Using as inspiration Jack Kerouac’s original 120-ft scroll of the novel, you’ll get the chance to emulate this seminal Beat-generation masterpiece and create a dazzling piece of fiction based on your own personal stories. Kerouac wrote the work in a three-week frenzy, but you will have only a day — and just like Kerouac, you will be fuelled by nothing stronger than coffee! |
