PetersfieldPetersfield had previously been famous for the wool trade, but this had declined by the 18th century. At that time, Petersfield was a quiet, agricultural market town. As far as its importance at that time is concerned, Petersfield was an important stop on stagecoach routes. Cattle and sheep were cols and bought, as well as grain. Really, Petersfield was a fairly small market town, which did not grow vastly, but the population did rise steadily through the 19th century. |
