Håkan Hardenberger trumpet
and Colin Currie percussion
Håkan Hardenberger is regarded as one of the greatest trumpet soloists of all time, and not only for his phenomenal virtuosity. Combining inspired musicianship with technical mastery and unique presence, he is the most noted pioneer of new works for trumpet, as well as distinguished performer of classical works. As Gramophone noted, ‘There can be few nobler pursuits than re-defining the limits of your instrument by commissioning new work or striving to perform existing pieces with new vigour. Hardenberger has achieved this peerlessly with nearly two decades of meticulously prepared and impeccably executed recordings’.
Percussionist Colin Currie has established a unique reputation for his charismatic and virtuoso performances of works by today’s leading composers, and has appeared with many of the world’s most important orchestras — the London Symphony, the Royal Concertgebouw and the Philadelphia among them. Regularly commissioning and recording new works, he has made an inspirational and innovative contribution to the repertoire for percussion.
