Preludes and Interludes’:
Graham Caskie piano

Preludes and Interludes is a unique collaboration between the pianist, Graham Caskie, the artist Brian Dunce and the composer Stephen Goss. In 2006 Brian Dunce was commissioned by the Guildford International Music Festival to paint twelve works, each a direct and personal response to one of the twelve Debussy Préludes, Book I, as performed and interpreted by Graham Caskie. This format was premièred at the 2007 Guildford Festival to critical acclaim. As a development of the project, the composer Stephen Goss was commissioned by Riverhouse Barn in Surrey to write a number of musical reflections on both the preludes and the paintings; entitled Interludes, these short pieces are designed to be interspersed throughout the cycle of Debussy’s preludes, thus forming a full evening recital programme.

Preludes and InterludesOn this occasion Brian Dunce will give a short introductory talk in the Barber Lecture Theatre, beginning at 6.45pm, and during the performance some of his paintings will be displayed on stage.
