There is plenty for you and your family to do on a visit to the Barber, with something
always on offer for people of all ages.
We welcome families to play and learn together in our creative art and craft workshops, captivating storytelling and family fun days, inspired by our fantastic exhibitions and collection.
Drawing Sundays for Children and Young People
February – April 2012
5 and 19 February, 4 and 18 March, 22 April
11.30am – 1pm, ages 6yrs – 10yrs
2pm – 3.30pm, ages 11yrs – 14yrs
Drawing is easy when you know how! Every fortnight we will show you how to draw absolutely everything; from realistic faces, figures, animals and landscapes to creative drawings from your imagination. You can have a go at using lots of different materials and techniques just like the real-life artists in the Barber’s collections. See how your drawing quickly improves in just a few sessions. Finally, choose your favourite sketch for a ‘Drawing Display’ in May 2012.

Creative Sundays for Families
February – April 2012
Our family workshops have moved to the weekend. You don’t have to wait for the school holidays to enjoy being creative at the Barber…
FREE PARKING at weekends, and there are lots of spaces!
All arts activities on Creative Sundays and Mondays for Families are suitable for children age 4–11 yrs.
Chinese Dragons
Sunday 12 February
11.30am – 1pm
Model a Chinese dragon from sculptors wax to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Dragon.

Renaissance Sun-Catchers
Sunday 26 February

Create a colourful sun-catcher to illuminate your windows, inspired by the brilliant colours in the Barber’s Renaissance paintings.

Clay Faces: Mums Portraits
Sunday 11 March
11.30am – 1pm
Bring in a photograph of your Mum and we’ll show you how to make a portrait model from clay as a gift for Mother’s Day.

Master Copies
Sunday 25 March
11.30am – 1pm
Learn how to make a close copy of a Barber painting using acrylic paint inspired by the new exhibition Unseen, then create an elaborate gold frame to display your masterpiece in.

Print your own Money

Imagine you’re a millionaire for a day and print your own gigantic golden coins and great big bank notes.

Creative Mondays for Families – on Bank Holidays:
Easter Bunnies
9 April (Bank Holiday Monday)
11am – 4pm
Search for the tiny rabbit hidden in one of the Barber’s paintings. Once you’ve found it you can then make your own tiny textile bunny rabbit. There is also interactive storytelling in the galleries with ‘Annamation’ at 12.30pm, 1.30pm & 2.30pm.
