Listen to the a tale of jealousy, lies and deception, as Susie Oldfield – of award-winning storytelling troupe Annamation – unravels the intriguing saga behind the Barber’s dramatic painting, Isaac blessing Jacob (c.1635), by Matthias Stom.

Shimmer and shine in
this jewellery-making workshop inspired by exquisite objects from ancient Egypt on display in our dazzling exhibition Sacred and Profane. Make brilliant blue stretchy wristbands, glimmering gold pendants and sparkling rings to dazzle your friends.

The Art of Drawing on Walls
The Big Draw
Saturday 9 October
11 am – 4 pm
Discover the ancient art of graffiti as part of this year’s Big Draw. Exciting tales of times gone by, along with ancient Egyptian magic spells and a mummy’s coffin from the University’s Institute of Archaeology and Antiquity will spark off your creative and lively wall drawings.

Black History Month

11 am – 4 pm
Experiment with different ways your fingers and hands can be used to make artwork. The Barber’s West African altarpiece, which was used to strengthen hands and encourage action, and the University’s Danford Collection of West African Arts and Artefacts, will prepare you for a dynamic day of handicraft and storytelling.

Christmas Craft Fair and Gift Workshop
Saturday 4 Dec
11am-4pm
Join us for a festive day of Christmas shopping and craft making. Choose from a variety of unique hand-crafted gifts, cards and wrapping paper made by practising artists and designers. While you’re here, design and make your own Christmas cards and decorations for family and friends.

Enjoy storytelling sessions in front of the paintings, drawings and photographs in our exciting exhibitions – then be inspired to create your own works of art to take home.

Explore natural forms gathered from around the
University campus to create imaginary landscapes,
inspired by the drawings and watercolours on
display in the exhibition ‘A Rage for the Lakes’.
Thursday 28 October: Secret Sketchbooks
Friday 29 October: Hidden Prints
Become a drawing detective and examine the
many small and secret spaces in the Barber
building in response to the photography
exhibition Function.
