Landscape Prints
Over the centuries, landscape has developed from being background scenery into existing as a genre of painting in its own right. This display, designed to complement the major exhibition Northern Lights, examines this development and explores the various roles landscape has played in art. Using a selection of works by masters from different eras, it traces how landscape has been a backdrop for mythical scenes, the setting for depictions of everyday life, and a symbol for man’s contemplation of his place in the world.
