Family Open Day 2009
Art, Music and Landscape
Saturday 30 May
10 am – 5 pm
Our creative and fun Family Open Day returns with a chance to explore the lyrical and enchanting realms of the natural world, which have inspired artists and musicians since the dawn of mankind. In our Art Alive! performances, you will have the chance to meet a very special royal guest who is visiting us from Stockholm—the landscape painter, HRH Prince Eugen of Sweden — whose work is also on show in our current exhibition, Northern Lights. The great 17th-century artist Claude Lorrain — ‘father of landscape painting’ — will also be resident throughout the day in his studio, where you can talk to him about his life and work.
Frolic around the gallery with our storytelling forest nymphs; get creative by constructing your own Explorer’s Wildlife Hat to wear on your expedition around the Barber; make an Animal Door-hanger to take home; then help us create the huge Four Seasons in One Day collage. There will be live music throughout the day, including a chamber ensemble performance of The Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns and fun-filled performances from a string quartet and a Dixie jazz band. Make sure this flora and fauna adventure is the highlight of your summer!
Admission free!
