Agrippina was Handel’s first big operatic 'hit': its opening run in Venice (27 performances) was unprecedented. Since it was premiered in 1709, this new production marks both the 300th anniversary of the work and the 250th of the death of its composer — as well as the 50th anniversary of the first Barber Opera.
