Press Release: 19 January 2004

Art Bus returns for Turner Tour de Force

The free Art Bus operates again on Saturday 24 January, offering art-lovers another handy opportunity to view both Birmingham's major, critically-acclaimed Turner shows consecutively, before the Barber Institute's exhibition 'The Sun rising through Vapour': Turner's early Seascapes closes the following day.

World-renowned painter JMW Turner had to rely on carriage, boat, steam-train and foot in his relentless tours around the country. But today's art lovers will be able to enjoy Turner's landscapes and seascapes without lengthy treks, thanks to the Art Bus, which connects the Barber's exhibition with Turner's Britain at the Gas Hall, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

For added value, 'The Sun rising through Vapour': Turner's early Seascapes at the Barber Institute is accompanied by the small exhibition of printed works, Turner, Printmaking and the Liber Studiorum. Meanwhile, Turner and the Birmingham Engravers runs alongside Turner's Britain at Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery.

Artbus will pick up directly outside the Barber, departing on the hour from 11am, arriving at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery's Great Charles Street entrance roughly twenty minutes later. It will then return to the Barber, departing from Great Charles Street, on the half-hour. Last bus of the day departs from the Barber at 4.15pm, arriving back at Great Charles Street at approximately 4.40pm. A timetable of departure times for the can be found below.
