PRESS RELEASE

Barber Evening Concert
Wednesday 5 May 7.30 pm

The Barber Institute welcomes this stunning trio to it’s Art Deco concert hall to perform a song recital as the conclusion to the 2009/10 Evening Concert series with a selection of songs and duets by Mendelssohn and Schumann, Fauré and Duparc, Somervell, Warlock and Bridge. This concert provides a rare opportunity to hear these performers in the intimacy of the University of Birmingham’s stunning chamber music venue.

The award-winning pianist Joseph Middleton and the highly acclaimed soprano, Geraldine McGreevy are Alumni from the Department of Music at the University of Birmingham and have performed in the Barber concert hall may times as students and we are delighted to welcome these respected artists back to the leafy University campus. An established recitalist and recording artist, Geraldine is now recognised as a rising operatic star. Her recent engagements include débuts at the Frankfurt Opera, the Monnaie Theatre (Brussels) and at the Komische Oper (Berlin). Joseph Middleton was recently awarded the Lied-Pianist Prize at the Internationaler Schubert-Wettbewerb LiedDuo 2009 in Germany. He has given recitals with internationally renowned singers of the opera world including Ann Murray DBE, Joan Rodgers, Amanda Roocroft, Katarina Karnéus, Andrew Kennedy, Sally Burgess, Stephen Varcoe, and Toby Spence.

They are joined by Sir Thomas Allen, an established star of the world’s great opera houses. At Covent Garden alone, where in 2006 he celebrated the thirty-fifth anniversary of his début, he has sung over forty roles. He is equally renowned on the concert platform, giving recitals in the UK, Europe, Australia and America, and appearing with the world's greatest orchestras and conductors.

All three performers are represented by Askonas Holt artist management.
