Inspired Stitches:
Textile Responses
to the Barber Collection
The first contemporary textile exhibition ever held in the Barber Institute, Inspired Stitches is a varied display of needlework pieces created by Edgbaston Creative Textile Group, a Birmingham embroidery class who meet regularly at Winterbourne Botanic Garden. The Barber was chosen by the tutor Jacqueline Laurence as the inspiration for the creation of a highly diverse collection of accomplished and original works. Each textilist has selected and responded to different visual prompts, from the Barber building itself to the sculpture and paintings of the main collection, with the resulting exhibits ranging from three-dimensional designs to framed embroidered panels and wall hangings.
