The Sunday Times
Royal Watercolour Society Competition

The Barber is the first regional venue for this exciting and varied exhibition of winning entries from the prestigious 2009 Sunday Times/RWS Competition. Since its inception in 1987, the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition — later affiliated to the Royal Watercolour Society — has always attracted the best British watercolourists of our time, including many Royal Academicians. The resulting exhibition has also launched the careers of some of the UK’s leading young artists, giving them their first mainstream exposure. Artists such as Stuart Pearson Wright won the Young Artist Prize several years before attracting huge acclaim when he won the National Portrait Award. The London exhibition at the RWS’s home, Bankside Gallery, has a very strong following with the arts community and the public. This show also throws a spotlight on winning artists from Birmingham and the Heart of England.
